Bag for $3

For the "fill a bag for $3" on Sunday, does this only include books? Or can I fill the bag with cds and dvds, too?

first time!

I visited the book sale for the first time this year and had a fabulous time - and bought WAY too many books.  I really appreciated having it in downtown London - close to many of the bus routes from various parts of London and I took advantage of the free parking in the lot next door.  I'll be back next year - hoping it will be downtown!

How many books

Hi,

Roughly how many books are you having in the book sale this year?

Are all books used or do you have brand new or like new books as well?

Thanks,

Books

Book Sale includes thousands of books collected by Friends of the Library through donations. These include used books, magazines, CDs, and other items. Many are recent and like new and there are also older used items.

Thank you for the prompt

Thank you for the prompt reply. What do you mean with thousands? Roughly around 10 thousand or 100 thousand?

Books

The Friends have not provided us with a total count of available items at their sale but it would exceed 10 thousand and could certainly be in the hundreds of thousands.  Hope you have a chance to check out the Sale.

Thank you London public library

I look forward to your annual book sale and will be sure to attend. I understand about having it in a different venue and it's unfortunate others don't and that there's so many negative comments here. I feel lucky to have a free library and am appreciative of all your efforts to hold this sale every year. There's always some treasures I find to bring home to my book collection.  Thank you for advising of the parking places and I sure don't mind paying a couple of dollars to park...in fact I plan to make a donation in thanks for all your hard work. Thank you London public library!

.

Thank you for your feedback

We appreciate your support and generosity and will share your feedback with the Friends who work so hard to support the community. Hope you find some great treasures this year!

Happy I Can Walk To This Year's Venue ;-)

I live in Old South and walk downtown for any excuse I can find (the library, the market, the drug store, a walk along the trails or through Victoria Park) in order to log my 10,000 steps per day on my Fitbit. So I'm looking forward to being able to walk to the Friend's Booksale this year. Plan to take a large back pack which should be big enough to hold whatever treasures I find, however, if I want to buy more than I can schlep, would it be possible to leave a bag of purchased books behind the sales counter (with a "sold" note listing my name and phone number) while I walk home to get my car? Thanks.

Leaving bag for later pickup

Great to hear that you're making the Book Sale part of your fitness goals!  It shouldn't be a problem to leave your purchased books for pick up later the same day.  You may be aware that the Book Sale is a busy place and the Friends do the best they can to provide great service to the large number of visitors and buyers.

New location

I just want to add to the comments here, that while I, too, preferred the old location, if it was unavailable, then I am grateful that the sale will still be held!!!  I'm sure for the volunteers, too, this new location has posed many challenges, but yet they have persevered and we are once again given the opportunity of books at an amazing price for a worthy cause!  THANKYOU to all the volunteers who give of their time and effort for your community!!!! We DO appreciate you!!!!

Your support is appreciated!

We will pass along your understanding words of support to our hardworking Friends volunteers.  They really appreciate the generosity of their community.

Accessibility

Hi

I'm attending on Friday. Is the venue accessible? And do I have to bring my own box for the (many) books I'll buy?

Thanks!

Centennial Hall

There is elevator access to the lower level of Centennial Hall and volunteers will assist in the carrying of materials up the stairs if helpful.  The Friends have a supply of recycled grocery bags for purchased books. Boxes are not available.

Change of venue for book sale.

I was so looking forward to the sale again this year! Then l found out it was in downtown London. I live outside London and avoid the downtown like the plague. Parking is a hassle, no matter where you park and traffic is a nightmare. Even free street parking outside the door won't get me there. Hopefully next year you go back to the convenience of the Western Fair District. See you then.

Friends of the Library

The Friends certainly hope that the community will continue to support their hard work as volunteers despite this change of location. Unfortunately, the Western Fair District location was not available to them this year.

Free Downtown Parking

Since there are a few comments about the cost of parking, I thought I would post some info for people who might not know.

You can park downtown at the metered spaces for free about 6pm Monday-Friday, and free all day Saturday and Sunday.  There is plenty of street parking around Centennial Hall if you don't want to walk from Citi Plaza.

Saturday Street Parking

Thanks for taking the time to share this information! To clarify, on Saturdays, on street parking is free for 2 hours.  On Sunday, there is no time limit. There is more information here: http://www.downtownlondon.ca/Discover-Downtown/Parking

parking

If this is a ploy to get people downtown you have failed.....  Western Fair  excellent place and parking lot is hugh  not worry about car damage or theift or  being acussed by some pan handler.  Disabled use walker........please return to Western Fair next year...

New location

We will pass along your feedback about the location to the Friends of the Library. The availability of free parking will certainly be missed this year and the Friends are working on ways to minimize the inconvenience. The Western Fair District location was not available to them this year. The Friends of the Library hope that the parking situation will not keep you from their sale and very much appreciate your support.

I'm very happy that the

I'm very happy that the location has changed this year.  It's much easier for me to get to, as I am a bus rider!  Thanks

Library sale

I’m am sorry to see that they moved the location of the library sale to downtown. I do not go downtown and I will not pay for parking! Western fair parking was so convenient. There are a lot of seniors that go to that sale and mobility can be an issue for them. I am going to miss going to that sale. Hopefully you change the location back!

Parking for Book Sale 2018

The Western Fair had easy, free parking, I don't know anything about downtown parking, i.e. where, how much, etc. Any info on that? Thank you kindly.

Location of Parking Lots

The availability of free parking will certainly be missed this year and the Friends are working on ways to minimize the inconvenience. The Western Fair District location was not available to them this year. There are a number of parking lots located near to Centennial Hall. Their locations are marked with a P on this map of Downtown London: http://www.downtownlondon.ca/mediafiles/DTL-Map-2014-Boundary-Expansion-w-wifi-website.pdf  About a 5 minute walk from Centennial Hall is the Citi Plaza's underground parking lot (enter from King St. heading east or Wellington St heading south) for which 2 hours validation is provided at the main desk of the Central Library. Central Library is adjacent to Citi Plaza.  The Friends of the Library hope that the parking situation will not keep you from their sale and very much appreciate your support.

access to new location

My first reaction to the new location. I don't want to pay to park to buy old books. To use public transit would limit my buying to what I can comfortably carry all the way home.
